Racine woman arrested after stabbing victim with butcher knife during fight

RACINE, Wis. (CBS 58) -- A Racine woman has been arrested after allegedly stabbing another woman with a butcher knife during a fight over money.

Sherrie Akins, 24, is facing charges of First Degree Recklessly Endangering Safety, Disorderly Conduct, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

Police were called to a home in the 1600 block of Edgewood for a report of a stabbing on May 27. Upon arrival, officers located a victim who had been stabbed.

The victim told police that the suspect, later identified as Akins, kept trying to get into the home. After the victim let Akins in the home, the two allegedly began to argue over money and the suspect became aggressive. Akins then allegedly grabbed a small knife but the victim was able to knock it out of her hands. The victim told police that Akins then grabbed a second knife, but the victim was able to knock it away.

When the victim was waiting on the porch for police, Akins allegedly came out with a long butcher knife and plunged it down towards the victim.

The victim blocked the knife with her right hand, causing a through-and-through stab wound to her palm.
