RACINE, Wis. (CBS 58) -- The lunchroom looked a little different for a group of local students in Racine Tuesday, May 26.
Six high-achieving students from each grade were treated to Culver's for lunch. But this wasn't any ordinary trip to the Wisconsin-based fast-food chain.
A limo rolled up to the school and escorted these students to the restaurant in Hollywood fashion.
Tuesday's reward was given to the top sixth, seventh and eighth-grade students in Gifford's all-school Read-a-Thon, which ended earlier this month.
We spoke with the district's superintendent, who thinks it's a great way to encourage learning in schools.
"In the year 2026, with TikTok videos and that sort of instant gratification on social media, it is wonderful to see these kids engage in reading," Superintendent Soren Gajewski said.
Additional rides for top readers in other grade levels will take place later this week and next.
