Racine mother charged with child neglect without public defender, case postponed

RACINE, Wis. (CBS 58) -- A Racine mother of five charged with child neglect will have to wait until next month to find out if she'll be ordered to stand trial.

Dashja Turner had a preliminary hearing on Wednesday, Aug. 16, and it was rescheduled when she appeared without a public defender.

Turner is accused of locking her children, ages 1 to 14, in a basement.

Multiple complaints to child protective services in both Racine and Kenosha County show the kids were malnourished and rarely got a bath or shower.

Turner is due back in court on Sept. 27.
