Racine & Me: Racine’s Madi Long Competes for Galaxy Crown While Giving Back at Home

RACINE, WI (CBS 58) -- A Racine native is standing out not just for her grace on stage, but for her commitment to giving back. Madi Long, who will be competing in the prestigious Galaxy International Pageant in August, has become a symbol of beauty with purpose. Representing North America on the international stage, she carries not only the pride of Racine but also a deep sense of responsibility to uplift those around her. Since stepping into pageantry in 2021, her journey through pageantry has been fueled by more than just a crown — it’s driven by her passion for helping others. Madi has done several community service projects through her platform, Kindness Counts - Helping At Risk Communities, including her annual school supply drive.

Now in its fifth year, her annual school supply drive has become one of her favorite initiatives. What started as a small project to help a few families has blossomed into a larger-scale effort that has supported over 260 students. Local businesses and residents have rallied behind her initiative, donating supplies and funds to help ensure that every child begins the school year with the necessary supplies to succeed. Her hands-on involvement — from collecting donations to distributing backpacks — reflects her genuine care for the well-being of local youth. This year her school supply drive will be benefiting Women’s Resource Center, Bethany Apartments, Women and Children’s Horizons, and SAFE Haven of Racine.

Central to her school supply drive is the “Stuff the Truck” event, scheduled for July 19th from 10:00 am until 2:00 pm at Sew ‘N Save of Racine on Durand Ave. On that day, a collection truck will be parked in front of Sew N’ Save of Racine, where she will gather essentials—backpacks, notebooks, pencils, markers, crayons —to help students start the year off right.  The event is designed not only to collect supplies, but also to foster a sense of community.

She has also organized two collection dates at Piggly Wiggly on Spring Street in Racine on July 26th and 27th from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm each day. Shoppers at the Racine Piggly Wiggly will have the opportunity to purchase and donate school supplies that will be assembled into backpacks for kids. In addition, Pine Acres General Store in Union Grove is a drop off location to collect school supplies.

As she prepares to take the stage in the Galaxy International Pageant, Madi remains grounded in the values that shaped her. She credits her success not only to hard work, but also to her family and the community that has supported her to help make an impact on others in need. Whether she's in a gown under bright lights or handing out pencils and notebooks, she embodies the spirit of leadership, compassion, and service. In doing so, she reminds us all that true beauty lies in making a difference.
