27-year-old Milwaukee father of three laid to rest nearly one month after he was shot, killed near Brady St.
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- It's been nearly one month since a Milwaukee father of three was fatally shot near Brady St. and on Friday, July 17, his family finally laid him to rest.
Marquez Banyard, 27, is being remembered by his older brother, Mason Hull, as someone with many talents.
"He was an athlete, he was a rapper, he was an artist," Hull said. "He was ecstatic, entertaining."
Last week, prosecutors charged Tawon Coleman with first-degree intentional homicide and reckless injury.
According to court documents, Coleman told authorities he and Banyard had previously gotten into an argument, and when he ran into Banyard about a week later at a bar, he admitted to firing shots.
"I still can't believe that he's dead. I still wake up and want to call his phone but as soon as I'm about to press it, I'm like oh yeah. It's just different," Hull said.
Banyard's mother, Tiwanna Agee, said despite the pain, she's choosing to pray for Coleman and his mother.
"Even though she gets to go see him, I will never see my son again, but that's still hard on any parent. So, I'm never going to blame his mother, so it's easier to just let go and let God," Agee said.
She noted that the outpouring of the support from the community showed how much her son "lived life."
"This right here has let me know how many people he interacted with, touched, all the way from K4 up until now so they're all still here," Agee said. "The support has been a lot even though it's been overwhelming, it's appreciated from everybody that's stepped up and showed out and helped out so we appreciate everything from everybody."
Coleman's next hearing is scheduled for Aug. 6.
Banyard's family said they plan to be at every court date in the future to ensure justice is served.
