Racine & Me: Bark in the Park brings family-friendly fun to Sturtevant

STURTEVANT, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Dog lovers and their four-legged friends are invited to a day of contests, activities, shopping and live music when Bark in the Park returns to Sturtevant this September.

The family- and pet-friendly festival, hosted by Billy’s Posse, Inc., will take place Saturday, Sept. 26, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Hiawatha Bar & Grill, 9809 Durand Ave. in Sturtevant.

Billy’s Posse is a nonprofit lost dog search and recovery organization serving Kenosha, Racine, Milwaukee and Waukesha counties. Proceeds from Bark in the Park will benefit the organization and its work helping reunite lost dogs with their families.

The festival will feature dog contests, including a costume contest, along with activities for dogs and children. Visitors can also browse pop-up shops featuring local small businesses, handmade goods, pet products and local service providers.

Local law enforcement and K9 teams are also expected to take part in the event.

Additional attractions include raffles and prizes, live music and food and drinks available from Hiawatha Bar & Grill.

Organizers ask anyone bringing a dog to make sure the animal is up to date on vaccinations and comfortable around people and other pets. Dogs must remain on a leash no longer than six feet, and retractable leashes are not permitted. Dogs may be off leash only while participating in designated activities.

The event does not allow the sale of puppies unless they are being offered through a registered rescue organization.
