Public Safety Committee approves request to send MPD protective gear to Ukraine

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Milwaukee's police department wants to donate protective gear to Irpin, Ukraine for its continuing struggle against Russian invaders.

"There's no firearms in this donation," said MPD Chief of Staff Nicholas DeSiato. "It is mostly body armor, face shields, handcuffs and then metal and wooden batons."

Milwaukee and Irpin are sister cities.

On Thursday, July 21, the Common Council's Public Safety Committee recommended the donation.

It still must be approved by the full council.
