Public Safety Committee approves Aldrete's nomination to Fire and Police Commission

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Griselda Aldrete stated her case before a Common Council committee Monday, for becoming the next head of Milwaukee's Fire and Police Commission.

"Don't prejudge that I can't do the job," Aldrete said. "Let me go in and assess, and then we can have some conversations about what the capability will be of me. And if I need to ask for help, whether it's from you or from other people, I'm willing to do that because this isn't just a job that I can pretend that I'll be able to do all on my own."

Earlier this month, Mayor Tom Barrett appointed the attorney and longtime non-profit group leader to run the commission that oversees Milwaukee's police and fire departments.

On Monday, the Public Safety Committee voted in favor of Aldrete's appointment and on Tuesday the full council will take the final vote on it.
