Portillo's in Brookfield Opens

What started as a hot dog stand operating out of small trailer more than a half century ago has grown into one of the most popular restaurant chains to come out of Chicago.  This morning  Portillos, the fast food eatery known for its Chicago style hot dogs and Italian beef, opened its first location in Wisconsin.

The doors opened at 10:30 on Tuesday morning and the first customers were greeted by Founder and owner Dick Portillo himself.

Mouths have been drooling and salivating over the restaurants famous Chicago style hot dogs, and the juicy Italian beef's.

This is the 44th location to open in the country and first in the state of Wisconsin.

Dick Portillo told me this was a long time coming and it was all about the demand here.

But it's not all about Chicago style food here in Brookfield, Portillo's is actually paying homage to the badger state with a badger brat, it's a Usinger's fresh bratwurst made with stone-ground German mustard and sauerkraut.

"Once you go to Portillo's, you'll never go anywhere else. You'll be back you'll keep coming back," Peter Robinson/first in line said.

"I'm glad were here it seemed like a long time right? But it's well worth it,” Dick Portillo/founder and owner said. "Once you place an order at Portillo's or you need chain of reaction is created. So you watch your food being made and for being prepared and all that. Nobody in the fast casual business does that."

When asked about any other further Wisconsin locations in the works, Portillo said there is a good chance.
