MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Milwaukee police say they've arrested a 17-year-old boy in connection to a deadly hit-and-run crash Thursday morning, April 23.

Officers responded to the scene near 13th and Vliet around 9:10 a.m. Police say a driver struck a 35-year-old man and fled the area; the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

Shortly after the crash, Milwaukee police say an officer observed what was determined to be the suspect vehicle driving recklessly near Lyon and Water Street. They say the officer attempted to stop the vehicle, and all occupants ran.

A 17-year-old boy later returned to the scene, according to police, and was taken into custody.

People who live in the area of the crash say they believe the man who was killed lived in a tent nearby. They say they saw officers going door to door looking for video of the vehicle involved earlier in the day.

We spoke with a man who lives across the street from the scene of the crash, who said he heard it happen.

"Just heard a boom. I just thought - because there's a lot of bumps out there - I thought it was one of them," he said. "Nobody screamed. I look out the car, and I see the man laying on the ground."

Police continue to seek additional suspects. Anyone with information is asked to contact Milwaukee police at 414-935-7360, or to remain anonymous, call Crime Stoppers at 414-224-TIPS.
