(CBS 58) – Parents are being warned about a scandal involving Facebook and online games.
According to The Center for Investigative Reporting’s Reveal, Facebook knowingly allowed children to ring up credit card debt on video game purchases.
Recently unsealed court documents state some people lost thousands of dollars from 2010-2014 that Facebook often refused to refund, the report says.
In a statement to The Center for Investigative Reporting’s Reveal, Facebook said it routinely examines its practices and updated policies in 2016 to provide resources for refund requests of purchases by minors.
Experts say the best way to avoid this from happening is to limit children’s spending by using pre-paid gift cards and using parental controls.
