MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) — Dan Winkelman, a 69-year-old from Stevens Point, knows how to tough it out in so many ways. He's beat the odds for eight years now, surviving a rare form of pancreatic cancer, and this might not even be his toughest journey yet!
He's riding his motorcycle from Elgin, Illinois to Anchorage, Alaska!! (He made a ceremonial stop along the way at the Medical College of Wisconsin in Wauwatosa where he's received treatment.) What he's doing is something he's always wanted to do, and now he really has a purpose behind it.
He'll be video blogging, or "vlogging," his story along the way, for some 3,800 miles and about a month long. He's expected to arrive in Anchorage on Tuesday, July 8th.
You can follow the journey, called "Hope on The Road," and donate to the cause, as well. Money raised will go towards pancreatic cancer research.
Our very own Michael Schlesinger had the chance to speak to Dan along with his son Andy before they left.
