‘Once in a lifetime’: Next generation of Brewers keeping an eye on 2026 playoff run
CBS 58 MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) — Just down the street from American Family Field is the Milwaukee Baseball Club, which started in 2013.
The club provides a place in the city for kids to play and learn the game of baseball.
“Baseball is pricing kids out in the inner city. To play baseball now, it’s $500 for a bat, $300 for a glove, $140 for a helmet and $200 for cleats,” MBC President Julian Haliga said. “We have ways that parents can play year-round baseball and not have to pay a penny out of their pocket.”
The club also helps kids in the classroom through high school and into college.
“It’s really hard for kids to pick up the game, and what we’re trying to do is make sure that they understand how awesome of a game it is,” Haliga said.
These days, the club is filled with Brewers jerseys and hats as the success of the Brewers continues to grow the game of baseball at the club and throughout Milwaukee.
“It just brings more attention to the game where it’s lacking,” Haliga said. “The love for the game and the city team doing amazing absolutely brings more eyes and attention to the game.”
Kids have plenty of reasons to root on the Brewers, who head into the playoffs with the best record in baseball and their eyes on the World Series.
“We’re from Wisconsin, and they’re kind of like the underdogs,” MBC 13U player Dereck Kintop said. “A once-in-a-lifetime experience because the Brewers have only made it to the World Series one time, and I was nowhere near alive.”
A World Series would not just bring a trophy to the city of Milwaukee. It would leave its mark on the baseball community and the next generation of potential Brewers.
“I think it would change everything to experience a win. The Bucks did it for us a few years ago, and look at what that did for the city, so I think the Brewers would be even bigger because the love for the Brewers here is huge,” Haliga said.
