'No swimming' signs, life ring buoys installed at Racine's Carre-Hogle Park after summer drowning

RACINE, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Two new water safety measures were recently installed at Racine's Carre-Hogle Park.

Following a tragic drowning over the summer, a joint team from the fire department, public health department, and Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services Department recommended adding "No Swimming" signage and life ring buoys to the area.

“These steps won’t eliminate every risk, but they provide clearer warnings and critical life-saving tools in case of emergency,” said Mayor Cory Mason. “We remain committed to doing what we can to prevent future tragedies.”

Community members are also encouraged to revisit a series of short videos on water safety created by the Racine Fire Department, Racine Unified School District, and Racine County:

“Public safety is always a shared responsibility,” said Racine Assistant Fire Chief Brian Wolf. “These resources, both physical and educational, are part of a broader effort to ensure families can safely enjoy Racine’s lakefront.”
