Nice Labor Day to start September after a wet and cool August

NOW: Nice Labor Day to start September after a wet and cool August
NEXT:

Happy Labor Day! And happy start to September! Temperatures Monday for Labor Day will hang out in the mid 70s for highs and stay sunny and comfy.

It's a nice start to the month after August ended on a cooler side. The last nine days of August were all below average with highs in the 70s and even upper 60s. That cooler than average trend continues for Labor Day but Tuesday could get back to average with highs in the upper 70s.

The cool end to August had a direct impact on the temps for the month which ended a couple degrees below average with an average temperature of 70.1 degrees. The coldest temp of the month came Sunday morning, August 31st, when Milwaukee dropped to 52. The hottest temp was in the first 10 days of the month when Milwaukee warmed to 94.

The big weather story in August was the flooding with a monthly rainfall of almost 9" which is more than double 2024 and well above average. We never got the tenth of an inch we needed to pass 1987 as the wettest August on record so it goes down as the second wettest August on record.

September typically gets over 3" of rainfall and while the month does not average any snow, it's not unheard of to see a few snowflakes fly for the end of the month. The average highs in September go from the upper 70s at the beginning of the month to the upper 60s by the end of the month and the average lows go from the low 60s to around 50.
