BROOKFIELD, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Fire crews responded to a report of a fire on Friday, Jan. 19, near Elm Grove and Robinwood in Brookfield. The three occupants were safely evacuated prior to the fire department's arrival. 

The first arriving units found a residence with heavy smoke and fire damage coming from the attached garage. New Berlin and the City of Brookfield crews started an aggressive fire attack, ventilation, and search of the entire structure, according to the City of Brookfield Fire Department. 

The family cat was rescued and unharmed and brough to the family after a quick evaluation. 

There was extensive damage to the garage and its contents. The fire is currently under investigation.
