New trial date set for former MPD Officer Mattioli in homicide case

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Another new trial date was set today for former Milwaukee police officer Michael Mattioli.

He is charged for the death of Joel Acevedo more than three years ago.

Mattioli appeared at a very short court hearing this morning and a date of Nov. 6 was set.

Mattioli was off duty in April of 2020, when police say he put Acevedo in a chokehold during a party.

Acevedo died and Mattioli is charged with first-degree reckless homicide.

One reason this trial has been delayed several times is that attorneys have been unable to reach Dr. Brian Peterson, who was Milwaukee County Medical Examiner at the time of Acevedo's death.
