New Milwaukee Excellence Charter School Welcomes Children Back to School

Kids at the New Milwaukee Excellence Charter School are back in class today.

It’s a 6th through 12th grade school comprised of all African American students.

The school's founder is Milwaukee resident Maurice Thomas.

He has traveled the country learning from the best schools in the nation and is back to put what he's learned into action.

"What we really focus on is double reading and double math for our students. Our goal is that by 9th grade 100 percent of our students are reading and doing math on grade level. We also do computer science so we want our students to be well rounded. We want them to create the future."
