Nearly 64% of Wisconsinites have a Real ID ahead of May 7 deadline, according to WisDOT
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Travelers have exactly one week from today-April 30- to obtain a Real ID before the deadline on May 7 kicks in.
A Real ID is marked with either a gold or black star on top of the card.
If you don't have one, you can still fly with a passport or another acceptable form of identification, however officials warn that may cause delays when going through the security checkpoint.
According to the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, nearly 64% of Wisconsinites have a Real ID.
"We're definitely making plans with our staffing and our enforcement plans, to kind of meet people where they are, but really just want to encourage people to not only think about May 7, but every day after as well. This is not a one-day thing, this is kind of a going forward thing," said TSA Regional Spokesperson Jessica Mayle. "So, look at what are your summer travel plans, what are your holiday travel plans, even if you aren't traveling right away, make sure you have a plan, whenever you do plan to travel, for an acceptable ID."
