Near drowning victim at Quarry Lake Park saved by good Samaritan

At 4:36 PM on Saturday, August 5 Racine County took a 911 call for a man in the water at Quarry Lake Park that was struggling to keep his head above the water and screaming. The caller stated that they thought the man may have been stuck on something under the water.

A good Samaritan that was at the park got in the water, pulled the man out and started CPR.

The man was taken to Ascension Health care in Racine and then taken by Flight For Life to Froedtert Hospital where he remains in critical condition. The near drowning victim is identified as a 23-year-old man from Racine.

The good Samaritan was also taken to the hospital since he was snagged by a 4" fishing lure with treble hooks on either side that dug into his arm that had to be medically removed.

It appears that the fishing lure and line may have been what the near drowning victim was caught up with in the water.
