JEFFERSON COUNTY, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Deputies responded to a multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 94 westbound in Jefferson County near mile marker 262 Wednesday morning, Aug 18. Interstate 94 westbound closed from Johnson Creek to Lake Mills for several hours.

The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office says three men were killed. Two of the victims are from Wisconsin. The third man is from out of state.

"It was sad, it was heartbreaking. Then saw an article about it that multiple people died and it was just sad," Isabella Camacho said. She saw the crash on her way to work.

Officials say a vehicle pulling a cargo trailer was going west. It lost control and hit a guardrail. A second car then crashed into that cargo trailer. The drivers of both cars got out. A bystander passing the scene parked his car and got out to check on those two drivers. A Kwik Trip semi-truck came along hitting the cargo trailer, the guardrail and then those three men.

"I work for Kwik Trip and it was a Kwik Trip truck. it scared me, that could have been any of us. No matter what and honestly it was just scary seeing the truck," Camacho said.

The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office is urging people to stay in their cars and wait for police if they're ever involved in a crash.

Officials are working to contact the victims' families. They have not released their names.
