Moving company helps people move Port Washington properties out of data center zone

PORT WASHINGTON, Wis. (CBS 58) - People in Port Washington are looking to relocate pieces of their properties, ahead of a multi-billion-dollar data center expected to come to town

David DeVooght owns the DeVooght House and Building Moving team, and is helping people move their sheds, barns, and homes out of the area the data center would be built.

“They’re really trying to get moving here so at the end if we can save a few more buildings, you know it would be nice,” DeVooght said.

The moving crews install a steel structure into the building and pump it up with a hydraulic system.

Wheels are installed in the building, hooked up to a truck and then it can be transported.

“It’s a process to move a building and get the approvals where it has to go and coordinate it all,” DeVooght said. “All we do is move buildings, we do that all the time, but data center stuff is new.”

Barns and sheds can be moved in just a couple of days, but homes can take up to a week to move.

DeVooght says the clock is ticking and not all homes will be able to move in time before the data center arrives.

“Just to repurpose the building, save the building, versus putting it into a landfill,” DeVooght said.
