OAK CREEK, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Dozens of Oak Creek residents woke up to find their cars damaged Thursday morning.
They were broken into and entered while parked in a space people thought was secure.
Residents are frustrated and scared after they found out the cars they thought were safe in their garages, weren't.
According to Oak Creek Police, around 2:00 a.m. Thursday morning more than 30 vehicles in five different buildings were broken into.
Many of them had windows smashed in and items stolen from inside. Officials from the Oak Creek Police Department are investigating and asking residents to let them know if they saw anyone suspicious in the area. They're also warning residents to remove items of value from cars.
One resident we spoke to whose car was damaged says she's really sad because the garage was a key selling point for her choosing her apartment and now she just doesn't feel safe.
"I'm really worried actually. Living in Wisconsin, I didn't want to have to deal with scraping off my car during the winter and winter is coming up. Thankfully because it's not bad yet there wasn't as many cars in the garage was not full," said Cynthia Shadow.
Residents say they'd like to see added security measures and some particular changes with the garage doors.
