NOW: Milwaukee Public Library using art to spread awareness about recycling

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The Milwaukee Public Library has unveiled an art gallery as a way to spread awareness about recycling.

Milwaukee students were given the chance to reclaim things that had been thrown away and use them to create works of art to go on display.

It's all part of a partnership with Milwaukee Public Schools (MPS), the library, the Milwaukee Department of Public Works (DPW), and Milwaukee Mayor Cavalier Johnson.

They hope to work together to encourage young people to take recycling seriously as they get older. That way the city will create a cleaner and more sustainable future for southeast Wisconsin.

"Recycling is not simply a task at the curb, it's a promise that we make to future generations that we use our resources wisely, we'll make sure we protect our waterways. Things like plastics don't go into the waters and harm wildlife," said Mayor Johnson .

If you want to see the displays, you can find them at the Milwaukee Public Library's Central location on Wisconsin Avenue until the end of November.
