MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- On Monday, Safe Auto Glass donated a $5,000 check to the Milwaukee Police Department, hoping to ease some financial burden for people who have had their cars fall victim to auto theft or damages.
This check is meant for the men and women in blue to help members of the community, in districts 1-7. The check will be divided into $50 gift cards.
However, with the influx of auto crimes over the past few months, many residents say they are unphased by the destruction.
Longtime Milwaukee resident Ashley Huren-Johnson tells CBS 58 she's used to hearing the occasional window smashing, saying, "I hear sirens, I hear clashing -- I hear it occasionally."
It's moments like these where Safe Auto Glass is looking to step in, offering a small token of relief.
This is the first time MPD and Safe Auto Glass have partnered together in what Milwaukee Police Chief Jeffrey Norman says is an important initiative, paving the way for other local business to help out community members who are in need of support.
