UPDATE:

Surveillance video shows an officer falling off of his motorcycle and his bike hitting building that used to be a daycare.

Police say this all happened after a car slammed into the officer, and sped away.

Holly Brown works at a nearby clinic and heard all of the commotion.

"I heard a horrific noise. I came out, and saw the motorcycle and the police officer up against the brick building across the street,” says Brown.

The accident happened around 9:40 this morning.

A car was speeding over the viaduct approaching west St. Paul Avenue.

Police say the people inside the car were acting suspicious as they spoke with some people in a second car.

Officers tried to stop the first car and that’s when the second car hit one of the motorcycle officers. Both cars sped away.

"I'm sure his falling off the bike probably saved it life,” Brown says.

Brown says the area has seen its share of traffic problems..

"Lot of speeders, lot of people running red lights."

Now, she hopes, there's a silver lining from all of this.

"For our community, hopefully they will do something to try and resolve this type of thing from happening again."

The officer has been released from the hospital and is expected to be OK.

Police are still looking for the suspects.

Milwaukee Police are searching for the drivers of two cars who were part of a hit-and-run crash that injured a MPD officer.

Two motorcycle cops from MPD’s Neighborhood Task Force were deployed near N. 27th Street and W. Clybourn Street around 9:40 AM Wednesday morning. A vehicle was speeding over the viaduct and approached W. St. Paul Avenue.

Occupants of that car were seen acting suspiciously as they spoke with occupants of a second vehicle. Officers attempted to stop the first car when the second car hit one of the motorcycle officers. Both vehicles fled the scene.

The injured officer was thrown from his motorcycle and transported to a local hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. Surveillance video shows the officer falling off of his motorcycle after being hit by the car and crashing into a building that used to be a daycare.

The injured officer is a 54-year-old man with more than 15 years of service. He is expected to be released later on Wednesday.

Police are searching for the cars in connection with the hit-and-run.
