Milwaukee mayor receives winnings from bet with Phoenix mayor
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Remember that friendly wager between Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett and Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego about which team would win the NBA championship? The Milwaukee Bucks obviously won and now, Mayor Gallego is paying up.
“I am very happy to have won this bet because we continue to celebrate our world champion Milwaukee Bucks,” said Mayor Barrett.
His bet had a sweet payoff; A personal letter from Mayor Gallego, cookies, brownies and beer from a Phoenix favorite brewery— it all arrived to his office from Arizona on Thursday, July 29.
“There’s some golf balls and a Native American peace symbol down there,” Barrett said looking at the table full of gifts.
The Honorable @MayorGallego of the @CityofPhoenixAZ is truly honorable. With the Milwaukee @Bucks win over the Phoenix @Suns, she has made good on the local goodies portion of our bet. pic.twitter.com/jn7T87zLwI

Mayor Barrett intends to keep his end of the bargain.
“Our end of the bargain now will be that we will send her a Milwaukee Bucks' jersey,” he said.
Gallego said she will wear it to a Phoenix common council meeting.
Mayor Barrett says so much good has come out of the Bucks being NBA Champions.
“I was just looking at a Sacramento newspaper yesterday and they were saying in essence come on Kings, Milwaukee can do it now you can do it,” said Mayor Barrett. “So now people are comparing themselves to Milwaukee and that’s really great news.”
Mayor Barrett said he’d gladly make another wager with Mayor Gallego again next year, when the Bucks are in the NBA Championship again.
