Milwaukee Mayor hosting job fair for construction jobs in Westlawn neighborhood
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) – Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett and the Housing Authority of the City of Milwaukee are proud to announce a Job Information Fair for individuals interested in construction-related jobs during the ongoing redevelopment of the Westlawn neighborhood in Milwaukee’s Choice Neighborhood Initiative (CNI) area.
The Job Information Fair will be held on Thursday, October 5 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Salvation Army Distribution Center located at 5880 N. 60th Street.
“This is a time of renaissance and revitalization for Milwaukee, including the northwest side of the city,” says Mayor Tom Barrett. “This job fair will build off the progress made at Westlawn Gardens, connecting residents with jobs and further transforming the rest of the area.”
At the Information Fair, job seekers will have the opportunity to learn more about and register for HACM’s Section 3 Resident Registry, which will allow them to be contacted by contractors when job opportunities become available. Project overview presentations will be held at 11 a.m., Noon, and 1 p.m. Finally, attendees will be able to meet with employment and training organizations for both construction and non-construction jobs.
“This information fair will help residents get into the pipeline for jobs and training as contractors have a need to hire over the next several years,” said Paul Williams, Choice Neighborhood Initiative Coordinator for the Housing Authority of the City of Milwaukee.
Construction of nearly 200 new apartments is anticipated to begin at Westlawn Gardens during the next several months, and over 700 new homes are planned during the next five years.
