Officials: Man accused of setting fire to Milwaukee apartment complex was 'angry' about neighbors smoking marijuana
MCSO MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- A 43-year-old Milwaukee man has been charged with arson in connection to a fire at an apartment building near Loomis and Fardale.
Keith Luko is facing the following:
- Arson of building
- First-degree reckless injury
- First-degree recklessly endangering safety (six counts)
The fire happened on Jan. 16.
Five people were taken to the hospital for treatment, according to MPD: a 27-year-old with life-threatening injuries, a 64-year-old and 18-year-old with serious but non-fatal injuries, and a 47-year-old and 9-year-old with non-fatal injuries.
According to a criminal complaint, Luko lived with his mother in the apartment building that was set on fire.
Surveillance video reportedly shows Luko, one day prior to the fire, loading personal property from the basement of the building to the front door stoop. Video also reportedly shows Luko at the front door entrance of the building and moments later running out of the doorway with a large flame visible behind him in the front entrance.
Once Luko was tracked down, investigators say he admitted to police he lived at the apartment building on Fardale Avenue, and stated he started the fire.
The criminal complaint says Luko admitted he was angry about his neighbors smoking marijuana, so he poured gasoline in the hallway and ignited it.
He's due in court for a preliminary hearing Jan. 20.
