Milwaukee man charged with aggravated battery in November death
Wisconsin Court System MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- A Milwaukee man faces an aggravated battery charge in connection with the November death of 47-year-old Bryan Johnson, according to a criminal complaint filed Thursday, Dec. 12.
Prosecutors charged 39-year-old Antoinne Pierre Bellamy with punching Johnson multiple times during a fight Nov. 22 in the area of 11th and Locust. Johnson was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital early Nov. 23 and pronounced dead at 1:20 a.m.
According to the complaint, witnesses said Bellamy made a comment to Johnson that led to an argument. A witness said the two began fighting and Johnson fell to the ground. Bellamy got on top of Johnson and punched him several times in the head while Johnson was on the ground, the witness told police.
Cellphone video reviewed by detectives reportedly showed Bellamy holding Johnson down on the concrete street and punching him approximately 10 times in the face and throat. Johnson appeared dazed or unconscious as onlookers pulled Bellamy off him.
After the fight, Johnson went to a bar with others but appeared dazed and unsteady, a witness told police. When they returned to 11th St., Johnson fell and was taken to the hospital.
Bellamy is due in court for a preliminary hearing on Thursday, Dec. 18.
