Milwaukee man charged, accused of shooting at driver on I-94

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- A Milwaukee man has been arrested after allegedly shooting at a driver on the freeway last Monday, Jan. 8.

David Ruiz is charged with first-degree recklessly endangering safety and endangering safety by use of a dangerous weapon.

The incident happened last Monday on I-94 eastbound near 32nd Street.

According to a criminal complaint, the victim was driving his work van on the way to his next assignment when he noticed a vehicle tailgating him. The victim reported the driver of the vehicle, later identified as Ruiz, moved to the left of the van and fired a gun, striking the victim's side door.

Responding officers discovered markings from a bullet on the door of the van.

The complaint says Ruiz's girlfriend told Milwaukee County sheriff's deputies that Ruiz was making food deliveries when the shooting occurred. She said the van in front of them stopped abruptly and Ruiz shot at the van.

If convicted, Ruiz faces up to 25 years in prison and thousands of dollars in fines.
