Milwaukee Irish Fest Center hosts family day

WAUWATOSA- A free day of Irish-themed activities centered around St. Patrick's Day drew hundreds of family to the Milwaukee Irish Fest Center the Sunday before St. Patrick's Day.


The general public learned about the year-round, cultural initiatives offered at Milwaukee Irish Fest while enjoying a day of festive traditions.



\"There are so many ways Milwaukee Irish Fest celebrates Irish and Celtic culture year-round - from the annual festival, to a music school, to a world-class archives, and more,\" said Patrick Boyle, executive director of Milwaukee Irish Fest. \"We are excited to open our doors and highlight the variety of programming we offer on a day when everybody is Irish.\"



Among the performers some of the best the area has to offer:


Trinity Irish Dancers, Ian Gould, and Ceol Cairde.


There was also a music workshop, weaving and lace making demonstrations, crafts for kids, and an opportunity to learn to write your name in Gaelic.


Ed Ward who founded the Irish Music Archives also was on hand and spoke about length about his family's world renowned collection of sheet music, the  largest public collection of Irish and Irish American music in America.


Milwaukee Irish Fest is August 14 to 17.
