MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Are these the future teachers of America? That's a question many young people may be asking themselves after Wednesday's Youth Educator Convening event hosted by Teach for America Milwaukee.

More than 140 students from eight area high schools were brought to the city's ThriveOn King facility to hear from education professionals about what it takes to be a great teacher and to examine whether or not this is something they'd like to do as a career.

Students we spoke with seemed more than a little interested in teaching.

"And they talk about who was a great teacher in their life, who has given them great advice, and can they be that person for someone else in the future," said Teach for America Milwaukee Executive Director Michael Nguyen.

"I really feel like my generation is the generation," said Milwaukee Academy of Science student Tavion Milams. "And you know, we have a lot of talents and gifts, and I want to be that person to display them among the world."

"It just makes me happy being around little kids," St. Anthony High School student Shamady said. "So being part of their childhood as well, it's maybe like a great opportunity."

The students were also given information about future college visits and pathways to a future in education.
