Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office hosts third annual National Night Out at Veterans Park
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) — Veterans Park was filled with food, games and community connections Thursday night as the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office hosted its third annual National Night Out.
The event gave residents a chance to meet deputies and other members of local law enforcement in a more relaxed setting.
Families were able to enjoy raffles, face painting, bounce houses and other activities throughout the evening.
Milwaukee County Sheriff Denita Ball said events like National Night Out are an important opportunity for law enforcement to build stronger relationships with the people they serve.
"It's great to have so many people that we see in the community to come out and enjoy this time with us," Ball said. "It is important for us to build bridges and oftentimes we start with the children."
The event also featured a special appearance by Ryker, a Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office K-9 who was recently injured in a freeway crash.
Ball said Ryker and his handler are both continuing to recover and are progressing well.
National Night Out events are designed to strengthen relationships between law enforcement agencies and the communities they serve while promoting neighborhood safety and engagement.
