Milwaukee County sheriff's deputy released from hospital following shooting
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The Milwaukee County sheriff's deputy injured in a shooting is going home.
The deputy was discharged from Froedtert Hospital Thursday evening, Jan. 27.
Twenty-six-year-old Christian Almonte was shot in the line of duty Wednesday after a traffic stop near 68th and Adler in Milwaukee.
The driver was arrested. The suspected shooter was a passenger in the vehicle and later died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The medical examiner's office identified him Thursday as 19-year-old Johnathon Williamson.
Almonte walked out to a large crowd of family, co-workers and hospital staff Thursday.
"It's amazing, it's good to see everyone, keeps me positive and keeps me motivated," he said.
"There's danger seen and unseen lurking out there," said Milwaukee County Sheriff Earnell Lucas. "But we do it again because many noble men and women serve in this profession and made that ultimate sacrifice."
The deputy had been on the force for 18 months.
