Milwaukee County outlines process for replacing Crowley as county executive
CBS 58 MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Milwaukee County Board Chairwoman Marcelia Nicholson-Bovell will become acting county executive when David Crowley leaves the office, according to a message sent to Milwaukee County employees on Wednesday, Nov. 4.
Crowley won the Tuesday, Nov. 3 election for governor. The county says he remains county executive until he resigns or is inaugurated Jan. 4, 2027, whichever comes first.
At that point, First Vice-Chair Steven Shea becomes acting Chair of the County Board. Within 30 days, Nicholson-Bovell will appoint an interim county executive, who must be confirmed by the board.
The interim will serve until a special election, which does not have a date yet. The winner will serve the rest of Crowley's term, which ends in April 2028.
The county says services and long-term projects will continue during the transition and that some details are still to be confirmed. Employees were told to take questions to their supervisors.
