Milwaukee Brewers players reported to Miller Park for practice

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Milwaukee Brewers players reported to Miller Park for practice Wednesday morning, July 1.

Forty-five players are attending the summer camp ahead of the shortened season amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

Opening day is scheduled for July 23 and 24. The Brewers will play 60 games this season. Forty games are divisional and 20 are interleague.

Brewers officials say the players are ready to come back to play.

“They’re creatures of habit," Brewers President of Business Operations Rick Schlesinger said. "You know they want to be playing baseball and it’s been tough on them to have spring training sort of stopped in the middle for them to not have access to their coaches and their training and their protocols and their rituals and for them to get back. I think they’re excited and it’s going to be a different kind of season. Obviously, 60 games is very different. A lot of restrictions on the players. It’s up to the players to do their part to be safe."

The trade deadline for this season is Aug. 31.
