MFD: Firework may have caused house fire near 40th and Glendale

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The Milwaukee Fire Department (MFD) said a firework on a roof might have caused a fire at a home near 40th and Glendale.

It happened around 10:30 p.m. on Friday, July 2.

MFD says one person is displaced following the fire.

Health and fire officials are warning people to be safe amid the Fourth of July weekend. They say people should not use at-home fireworks, instead leave it to professionals and go to parks to see big firework displays. Captain John Frost with the South Milwaukee Fire Department reminds people that most fireworks are not legal in Milwaukee.

Josh Ross is an emergency medicine physician with UW Health.

"If you're using fireworks at home, I'd say don't make your own fireworks, only use one firework at a time safely with an adult, make sure the adult is sober, not intoxicated, make sure you have water around," said Ross.

This is a developing story and will be updated.
