MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- A criminal complaint issued in Milwaukee County has revealed additional details about the arrest of 23-year-old Forest Mayes.

The March 13 complaint notes that Mayes led officials on a high-speed chase in Oak Creek on Friday, March 8 at around 10 a.m. The chase reportedly saw Mayes drive on the wrong side of the road for two city bocks before running red lights and striking a vehicle at West Holt Ave. but the chase continued.

Excessive speeds and hazardous driving continued for almost 17 miles, reaching a speed of 98 mph, according to officials, ending on West Layton Ave. where he was detained.

Mayes was being pursued after a Milwaukee County sheriff's deputy in an unmarked car was seeking him for his alleged involvement in the Feb. 23 hit-and-run that killed 32-year-old Jennifer Gail Dimatteo.

After being notified by officials that not only was he arrested for fleeing but also for the hit-and-run death a week earlier, Hayes reportedly said, "This ain’t no intentional homicide, Sarg. It’s 3 or 4 in the morning. Sarg, how the [expletive] am I supposed to know what I hit at 3 or 4 in the morning? You get what I am saying, sergeant?"

Hayes faces charges for Hit and Run Resulting in Death, Felony Bail Jumping, fleeing or eluding an officer as a habitual criminal repeater, first-degree recklessly endangering safety as a repeat offender.
