MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Milwaukee Mayor Cavalier Johnson hosted a ceremonial signing of new affordable housing legislation Monday morning, Aug. 12.
It's advancing the construction of dozens of new duplexes and single-family homes in the Midtown neighborhood.
This action provides city approval for unique tax districts that support the construction of dozens of new homes.
The new city financing will provide more than $2 million towards the overall housing project, which is expected to cost around $20 million.
"All homes are income restricted, so they're attainable to families making $25 an hour or less. These restrictions are important because they ensure they're affordable for generations to come, without adversely affecting the taxes of neighboring properties," said Mayor Johnson.
This effort is a collaboration from multiple partners, including Milwaukee Habitat for Humanity and the Community Development Alliance.
