Waukesha County: Suspect dead after police-involved shooting in Village of Summit

WAUKESHA COUNTY, Wis. (CBS 58) -- The Waukesha County Sheriff's Department identified the man shot and killed by deputies Thursday as 41-year-old Nathan Poulakos.

WAUKESHA COUNTY, Wis. (CBS 58) -- One person is dead following a police-involved shooting in Waukesha County on Thursday, March 19.

According to the Waukesha County Sheriff's Department, authorities were chasing a suspect in a vehicle in Jefferson County when deputies in Waukesha County were made aware the pursuit was entering their jurisdiction. 

Officials attempted to stop the fleeing driver but the pursuit continued into a field where it ended. 

The sheriff's department says the driver exited the vehicle and displayed a handgun. 

Fearing for their lives, according to the sheriff's department, deputies shot the suspect. 

Emergency medical assistance was provided but the suspect was pronounced dead at the scene. 

An independent investigation is being conducted by the Walworth County Sheriff's office.
