Manitowoc man faces 7th OWI charge

ROCHESTER, WI (CBS 58) -- A Manitowoc man faces his seventh charge of Operating While Intoxicated.    Fifty-year-old Scott Smits was arrested early Saturday morning by a Racine County Deputy in the Village of Rochester.   According to a Sheriff’s Office news release, around 1:15 AM the deputy saw a southbound vehicle on HWY 36 nearly strike a concrete center curb as it was swerving in and out of its lane of travel.   After stopping the vehicle, deputies noticed a strong odor of intoxicants and Smits admitted to consuming two beers.   According to the news release, Smits failed a standardized field sobriety test and was placed under arrest.  Smits was taken to the Aurora Memorial Hospital in Burlington for a blood draw, but the results of the draw are not yet available.   Smits taken to the Racine County Jail and is being held on the OWI charge.    A dog which was in the vehicle with Smits, was turned over to a friend.
