Volunteers serve thousands at Salvation Army Christmas feast
MADISON, Wis. (CBS 58) -- The rotunda of the state Capitol in Madison was filled for a celebration of Public Schools Week on Friday, March 1.
It was also a public action day in which advocates delivered notes of appreciation for public schools to state lawmakers. But this was also a plea for help from those lawmakers. They say those public schools are not getting the financial support they need to properly serve students.
"Year after year, budgets are drafted and then passed that fall short of the needs that we have," said Danielle Whitaker, Bristol School District board member.
"Public schools that accept and serve every child deserve more from the state of Wisconsin," said Ingrid Walker-Henry, Milwaukee Teachers Education Association president.
The goal of Public Schools Week is, appropriately, education to show the public at large what's happening in the schools.
