MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The Milwaukee Area Domestic Animal Control Commission (MADACC) and Friends of MADACC are announcing a new promotion for adult dogs and cats.

The "Summer in the City" promotion will run from June 29-Aug. 31 and focus on finding homes for adult dogs and cats, leaving room for incoming strays throughout the summer.

Thanks to a gift from Friends of MADACC, adoption fees will be cut in half for adult dogs, and fees for adults cats (one year and older) will be waived.

“We are living in unprecedented times, and the fate of family companion animals are now intertwined with the challenges their humans are facing,” said Karen Sparapani, executive director at MADACC. “As an animal control facility, space is our most important commodity. We could have a large intake event any time any day. Animals are happier in homes, preferably with their owners, but when that is not possible, we want them to find new homes where they can start over. The faster we can do that, the stronger our ability and resources are to intake new stray animals who need safe lodgings until their owner can come or they can be made available for adoption.”

MADACC says they've seen a drastic increase in animal intake in 2022.
