ELKHART LAKE, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Amazing race for Christian Lundgaard, last on the first lap and he is first on the last lap to win at Road America.
In a one-on-one interview in victory lane, CBS 58 Sports Director Lance Allan asked Christian is this how you write the book on going from worst to first or last on the first lap. You get the victory or wherever you want to say?
"I never really felt like anything this weekend was going our way," Lundgaard says. "Both my teammates were much more competitive and I really didn’t understand why. I’ve just been confused. But this really wasn’t the day I expected to have."
Last lap. Did David Malukas think he had a little more for him or did he watch that orange car pull away from him a little bit?
"Well at that point it’s alternate tires versus primaries," Second place finisher David Malukas says. "So, there wasn’t much of a battle there. I was trying so hard but I’m going sideways he’s going forward."
"I feel bad for Graham," Will Power said after finishing third while crashing with Graham Rahal on the final lap. "Nothing I could do there. We’re both breaking hard and he moved to the left and it surprised me. Certainly, didn’t want it to end that way."
And pre-race here at Road America, President and GM Mike Kertscher did say that this will be a Father’s Day tradition. Didn’t give exact dates but expect IndyCar back around this same time next year.
