Local leaders upset after south side social security office closes

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) – There’s anger outside a newly-closed social security office on Milwaukee’s south side.

“It is absolutely negligent, unacceptable to attack the most vulnerable people in our community which are seniors and the disabled and not provide them with the services that they need to survive,” said Tammy Rivera, Executive Director of Southside Organizing Center.

The field office on 7th and Mitchell closed Thursday and local leaders gathered to express their outrage.

On Friday, Congresswoman Gwen Moore says there’s evidence that the administration didn’t give proper notification before they shut the office down. Critics have long argued that closing the office is a hardship for people who live nearby.
