Local leaders show support for construction of new hotel in Deer District
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- At City Hall Tuesday, Common Council members will consider a zoning change for land in Milwaukee's Deer District.
The change will allow construction of a new hotel, called The Moxy.
On Monday, Mayor Cavalier Johnson and local labor leaders held a press conference announcing their support for the zoning change and the hotel.
The Moxy would add more than 150 rooms to Milwaukee's growing hospitality industry, but the focus Monday was on the jobs this project would create.
"These men and women behind me, I want them to work," Mayor Johnson said. "I want them to have a job. That's what this development is all about. And when they build things, people come."
"If you have not been to a Moxy, check it out, it's cool," said Milwaukee Bucks President Peter Feigin. "It's a product that doesn't exist in this city. It's awesome."
The Moxy Hotel would stand near the corner of Vel R. Phillips Avenue and State Street, next to the concert venue also planned for the southern end of Deer District.
