Sports Director Lance Allan goes 1-on-1 with new Wisconsin athletic director Shawn Eichorst
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Recently, new Wisconsin Athletic Director Shawn Eichorst came to the Milwaukee Athletic Club and sat down with our Lance Allan for a one-on-one interview on several subjects. Here is a portion of that interview.
"I think I have a sense of what Wisconsin is all about," Shawn Eichorst says. "What Wisconsinites are all about. And so, I wouldn't say it makes me the best person for the job, but I think it makes me somebody that understands who we are and what we're about."
Lance Allan: "I got to see the new football facility and athletic facility. Things like that. How is that going to help you and the program going forward?"
"You know, at the end of the day. It's all about people. But you gotta have facilities and the resources, right?" Eichorst says. "And so I'm excited for our kids to have a world-class training facility."
Lance Allan: "But do you feel like you're better equipped to compete with -- there's been a lot of talk about, okay, they're spending more money on football. Or you know, with the NIL deals and with the sponsorships and with the Culver's patch or whatever, that you're better equipped to compete. Is that true?"
"The way I look at it is there's been an evolution of time over the last decade where we've been able to provide more benefits to our student-athletes than we ever have before. I don't get caught up into all the pro lingo about cap and revenue sharing and all that other sort of stuff. It's benefits. And so, if Wisconsin is in a position to provide benefits to its kids, so it can compete at a high level and then get an education and get out of here and be productive citizens in society, I'm all for it."
Lance Allan: "So, what is your priority one? Now that you've kind of gotten into it, and like you said, you're still early on, but what's your priority one?"
"My priority is to continue to listen and look and learn. And be out front," Eichorst says.
