Local high school honors veterans in a 100-year tradition

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- A local high school carried on a tradition honoring those who served.

Catholic Memorial High School held their annual "Celebrating of Lives" service Friday, May 9.

The service honors 29 men those lives were lost during World War II (WWII).

School President Donna Bembernek tells us why the memorial means so much to the community.

"Local parishes wanted a catholic high school in Waukesha and through fundraising...ultimately WWII happened and 100 men from this area didn't come back," said Bembernek. "Twenty-nine of those are from our community. We stand here as a living memorial for those 29 from who we stand here and remember ever day in May."

It included a special tribute from students who have strong connections to the armed forces.
