Kohl's Donating Nearly $2 Million for National Go Green Event

Kohl’s associates are joining together to give back to their communities by volunteering during the company’s seventh annual National Go Green event, kicking off Friday, according to a release from Kohl's. With hundreds of events planned, Kohl’s volunteers will support youth-serving nonprofit organizations by participating in environmentally-based activities as part of Associates in Action, Kohl’s associate volunteer program. In addition to providing thousands of volunteer hours and talent, Kohl’s will donate a minimum of $500 to each eligible nonprofit organization, totaling nearly $2 million this year and nearly $14 million since the program’s inception.

“National Go Green is an amazing opportunity for Kohl’s associates to unite and volunteer for the good of the communities in which they live and work,” said Jen Johnson, Kohl's vice president of corporate communications. “Together, we will make an impact on hundreds of deserving nonprofits and are excited to deliver the same level of service Kohl’s is known for at our stores, to organizations that serve local children and families so graciously.”

Through early June, Kohl’s associates will volunteer across the country for events including:

  • Landscaping and beautifying the grounds at Seattle Children’s Hospital in Seattle.
  • Restoring and preserving beloved community gathering spaces with organizations such as Keep Greater Milwaukee Beautiful and the Urban Ecology Center in Milwaukee.
  • Combing beaches for trash and debris to provide a safe and beautiful habitat along the New Jersey shoreline with Clean Ocean Action

Kohl’s volunteer program is part of the company’s overall philanthropic platform, Kohl’s Cares, which includes the Kohl’s Cares Hospital Program and Kohl’s Cares cause merchandise. Since 2001, Kohl’s has donated more than $112 million in corporate grants to youth-serving nonprofit organizations across the country. In 2015 alone, Kohl’s volunteer program organized more than 28,500 community events nationwide with associates contributing more than 478,000 volunteer hours.

In addition to supporting environmentally-based volunteer events during the annual National Go Green event, Kohl’s aims to protect and conserve the environment by seeking solutions that encourage long-term sustainability, such as waste reduction, energy use reduction, sustainable building design and construction, and supply chain collaboration. Most recently, Kohl’s received the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) 2016 ENERGY STAR® Partner of the Year – Sustained Excellence award, marking the fifth consecutive recognition for the company.
